In a notice in the Government Gazette, the Competition Commission has announced that the Board of Healthcare Funders of Southern Africa has applied for an exemption from certain provisions of the Competition Act. The exemption would enable medical aid schemes to engage collectively in relation to certain concerted practices, including but not limited to, sharing and publication of information including prices and costs, collective submissions to the state and collective bargaining for medical materials, medicines and devices. The window for comment closes on 3 June.
