Probiotics – microorganisms such as bacteria and yeast – have long been known to promote healthy digestion. But, reports [s]Yahoo News[/s], an [b]Australian[/b] study has revealed a surprising benefit: the ability to reduce high blood pressure. [b]Griffiths University[/b] researchers conducted a meta-analysis of nine randomised, controlled trials involving 543 adults with normal and elevated blood pressure. They found, however, that consuming probiotics for less than eight weeks had no effect on blood pressure, suggesting that regular prolonged consumption is necessary to see a change.
