The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said measles cases countrywide appear to be decreasing, except for Limpopo, where numbers have remained stable and where most of the new cases were reported last week.
The Citizen reports that the NICD has tested 5 507 serum samples so far, of which 911 were confirmed positive.
The outbreak has been declared in all provinces except for the Eastern Cape, with the strain detected in Limpopo and North West Province being genotype D8 – similar to the strain in Zimbabwe in the 2022 outbreak.
The most affected age groups are still the 5-9 year olds, followed by the 1-4 and 10-14 age groups.
