Our Knowledge Translation Unit is currently recruiting an experienced Scientific Officer to co-lead a programme of research on Multiple long-term Conditions (multimorbidity or MLTC-M) which uses a stakeholder-driven process to improve care, treatment and support systems for people living with MLTC-M in South Africa. Programme aims to enhance their wellbeing and strengthen the public-sector primary healthcare system to provide complex care that is person and peoplecentred and that balances patient and community preferences, clinical evidence, local policies, and resource constraints.
The position requires co-ordination of six (6) interlinking work packages over four years, liaison with the UK donor and local South African stakeholders (within government at national, provincial and district levels and with civil society), and ensuring project compliance with donor, ethical and gatekeeper requirements. It includes opportunities for individual career research advancement.
Minimum Requirements:

PhD in a health-related field
At least 3 – 5 years research experience
Experience and knowledge of public healthcare systems in South Africa
Evidence of independent writing skills in peer-reviewed publications and project reports
Computer Literate; with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and data processing
Analytical and detail orientated
Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport

Responsibilities:
Independent research
Identify an area of research interest within the programme of work to lead and complete
Lead publications
Lead regulatory portfolio for the project
Work with Co-Investigators to write and oversee ethics applications, amendments and reports
Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidance, including arranging training if needed and ensure protocols meet all ethical standards
Ensure Standard Operations of Procedures (SOPs) and training to ensure sound ethical delivery of the intervention and research plans
Scope and deliver compliance requirements of stakeholders that impact delivery of the project (e.g. local government registration, reporting)
Project Leadership and Coordination
Provide managerial input, programme direction and support to project staff, including the Project Manager. Manage project activities, outputs and quality, and revise work plans as needed
Work closely with the two Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators to deliver the funded programme of work
Stakeholder Engagement
Engage with national, provincial and district-level decision-makers and mangers in the health system to ensure full partnership and support for the project throughout the formative, implementation and consolidation phases of the project
Engage academic partners to ensure timeous delivery of work package deliverables, especially those which are dependencies for project progression
Engage with the donor to ensure timeous delivery of all reports, rapid response
