The family of Elizabeth Fosa (87) from Khutsong South is demanding answers after she was discharged from Carletonville Hospital with severe bruises on her legs, which no one has been able to explain.
Fosa had been admitted with severe breathing difficulties, and the family had visited her daily to ensure she was fed and bathed. However, when she was discharged on 25 February, they were horrified to find large, dark bruises covering her left thigh, as well as the inside of both thighs.
“When I went to pick her up, I was shocked by how she looked. None of the staff could tell me what caused the injuries,” a relative said.
Even more concerning, Fosa is unable to speak, so cannot explain what happened to her.
The family said the bruising was still visible, raising serious concerns about her treatment at the facility.
Investigation under way
Carletonville Hospital’s communication officer Matabo Letsoalo told Gautentg News an investigation is under way.
“We have since contacted the family and are investigating the allegations …a redress meeting will be arranged with them as soon as investigations are completed.”
The case has sparked concern among the local community, with many questioning the standard of care at Carletonville Hospital.
The facility has encouraged complaints to be raised directly with operational managers of the wards concerned, but locals argue that more accountability and transparency are needed.
