Medical Protection Society (MPS), the world’s leading medical defence organisation which protects and supports the professional interests of more than 300 000 healthcare professionals, has announced the appointment of Nirven Maharaj to the new role of Chief Commercial Officer, International.
Maharaj will be the first MPS executive to be based in South Africa. He will oversee the MPS businesses across South Africa, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
Previously, he has served in various executive roles across the insurance value chain, most recently managing the Bancassurance business at Absa Insurance in Johannesburg. During his time at Absa, Maharaj drove strategic change through the adoption of innovative technologies to enhance the customer value proposition
MPS Chief Executive Karen Miller said: “We are delighted Nirven is joining the MPS Executive team as we implement our new strategy, which will have a focus on delivering exceptional member experience, improving operations, and growing our membership in South Africa and globally.

Maharaj, who will begin his new role on 1 June, said he was looking forward to being part of the MPS team.
