Researchers decode mechanism to fight UTIs

Bacterial urinary tract infections (UTI) are a painful nuisance, triggered by intestinal bacteria which invade the uro-genital tract through smear infections via the urethra. While the infection can be treated with antibiotics, it can cause chronic kidney damage and possibly even promote the development of bladder cancer. Researchers from the University of Bonn Medical Centre have decoded the way in which immune cells communicate with each other in defence against such infections, reports [s]Infection Control Today[/s]. The results are being published in the journal [s]Cell[/s].
