A new drug, bedaquiline that will help treat drug-resistant TB, isexpected to be approved for use by the SA Medicines Control Council soon. This is according to [b]University of Cape Town[/b] professor and head of the pulmonology department Keertan Dheda. Bedaquiline has been used by [b]Médecins Sans Frontières[/b] and government doctors since last year in a controlled ‘compassionate use’ programme with fewer than 200 patients receiving it countrywide.
