A Gqeberha woman died after leaping from the third storey of Livingstone Hospital on Monday afternoon.
Belinda Lock (65) was unresponsive after hitting the ground, but despite staff briefly resuscitating her, she died of severe internal injuries shortly afterwards, reports News24.
Lock had been admitted for an exploratory laparotomy surgery on Sunday to remove a bowel obstruction. It was subsequently revealed that she had a previous psychiatric problem, which was not disclosed before her admission. Police said an inquest had been opened for further investigation.
Staff and patients in the victim’s ward received trauma counselling on Tuesday.
