Kurt Worrall-Clare dies

ObitKurt Worrall-Clare, acting CEO of the National Hospital Network and past CEO and current board member of the Hospital Association of SA, has died.

The Hospital Association of South Africa in its statement on the death of Kurt Worrall-Clare, said:

“We have lost one of our own and will miss his legal acumen, his counsel, his leadership, his honesty, and his vision. We will also miss his dry wit, his warm smile, his mischievous sense of humour, his compassion for people no matter who they were and where they came from, and his passion for their health.

“These qualities were no better displayed than earlier this year when Kurt took up the cudgels on behalf of hospitals and patients who came under threat during the electricity cut-offs in eMalahleni. He took it upon himself to initiate and front a media and stakeholder campaign to draw attention to the plight of hospitals and to plead for them to be exempt from the Eskom electricity cuts that plunged hospitals into the dark, and interrupted their water supplies. Thankfully, his appeal was heard and the looming tragedy was averted.

“Over the years, Kurt has worked collaboratively with government departments, led private sector initiatives, run a private hospital group, and contributed through the Hospital Association of South Africa and NHN to over-arching healthcare reform debates and discussions – always constructively, always putting reason and logic ahead of partisanship, and always in search of solutions that benefited everyone.

“He will be missed, and we ask that his family and the NHN and everyone who was close to him occupy the thoughts, wishes and prayers of all those who knew him – may they receive strength and comfort in these very trying times. And may they know, above all, that he was a truly good man.”
