A police investigation is under way after a video showing scores of people, among them a Doctors Without Borders (MSF) employer in a branded vehicle, looting meat from a broken-down meat truck in KwaZulu-Natal.
The video was taken on 19 January when dozens of people stole meat from the refrigerated truck parked on the R66 in the King Cetshwayo District after a mechanical breakdown, reports IOL.
The clip was filmed by the truck driver, who also recorded the vehicle number plates of the cars involved in the looting.
In one of the clips, he confronted the driver of a Doctors Without Border branded vehicle as more than three chunks of looted meat were thrown into the back of the van.
Although the driver attempted to plead ignorance, he was unable to offer an explanation about the meat in his vehicle.
MSF spokesperson Sean Christie said they were aware of the video, and that the staffer had been on duty at the time, delivering medical supplies in the area where MSF has been working since 2011.
Christie said MSF has also contacted the owner of the looted truck and a police investigation was under way.
