New Vanderbijlpark clinic, EMS base, to boost local healthcare services

Vanderbijlpark residents in Gauteng will have expanded and improved access to primary healthcare services with last week’s opening of the new Johan Heyns Gateway Clinic, a replacement for the former community health centre that’s being redeveloped into a hospital, reports TimesLIVE.

Good news, too, is that an Emergency Medical Services base has also been established at the clinic – officially handed over to Sedibeng District Health Services and the community by Health MEC Faith Mazibuko and Emfuleni Mayor Hassan Mako on Tuesday.

With 13 consulting rooms, an emergency room, a triage and vital signs area, a physiotherapy room and dispensary, the new centre also features a digital patient flow system so clinicians can generate prescriptions electronically and send them directly to the pharmacy.

The clinic will operate from Monday to Friday, from 7am to 4pm, and treat minor and acute illnesses, chronic disease management, HIV, sexually transmitted infections, TB services, antenatal care, family planning, and maternal and child healthcare.

Patients will also have access to mental health services, rehabilitation, social work, men’s health services, dietetics, adolescent and youth-friendly services, and community outreach programmes.
