Outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease in Free State

A small suspected outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease (a strain of the Coxsackie virus) has been confirmed by the provincial Health Department at a pre-school in Bloemfontein this week.

The department said the viral infection usually disappears after a week unless complications arise, and it had activated the Mangaung Metro Health District Outbreak Response Team for surveillance, tracking and tracing of the affected children, reports Health-e News.
