Phaahla: Welcome Back strategy to reinstate abandoned HIV treatments

Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla says there are standard operating procedures in all nine provinces to compel patients who abandoned their anti-retroviral treatment (ART) for HIV to resume their medication.

In a reply to a parliamentary question, he said the Welcome Back Campaign strategy sought to support the re-engagement and retention of people living with HIV – those who were diagnosed but never initiated ART, and those who started ART but interrupted the treatment.
