The Eastern Cape Health Department’s deputy director-general (DDG) for HR and Corporate Services, Nwabisa Mavuso, was released on R1 000 bail last week after being involved in an accident, and being detained in police holding cells.
She appeared in the Qonce Magistrate’s Court on allegations of negligent and drunk driving.
The vehicle had been in an accident in Qonce (formerly King William's Town) the previous evening, reports News24.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said the matter was postponed to 28 October for further investigations.
Department spokesperson Mkhululi Ndamase said Mavuso had requested leave from work.
“On principle, the department always co-operates with law enforcement agencies when it involves our employees. It does not interfere with legal processes. The law should take its course,” Ndamase said.
