The Special Tribunal has interdicted the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) from paying R2m pension benefits to former Mpumalanga Health assistant director Tshegofatso Moralo, who has been linked to irregular contracts.
A Special Investigating Unit (SIU) probe found Moralo, who was also manager of pharmaceutical services, was involved in the awarding of seven contracts worth R19.4m for procurement of goods and services from various service providers during Covid-19.
The investigation found he had failed to ensure compliance or take reasonable steps to ensure the department did not incur irregular expenditure, TimesLIVE reports.
Moralo resigned in the middle of the SIU-initiated disciplinary process to avoid accountability.
Civil action is being pursued to review and set aside the contracts and to recover losses suffered by the state.
