Patients will be able to see their family doctors in the evenings and at weekends and e-mail them for advice, under plans for a radical expansion of surgery opening hours. GPs in areas across England will receive £50m of government funding to reorganise their services so that surgeries will be open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.
