Woman in court over R3m nursing college fraud

A Limpopo woman who was on the run for six years and who is accused of defrauding students of more than R3m while running unregistered nursing colleges, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court last week on 33 counts of fraud.

Salome Ngwana apparently defrauded students who had enrolled at Far North Nursing School, with campuses in several areas, reports News24.

NPA regional spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said Ngwana had appeared in other courts in the province on similar charges, and that the first cases were opened as far back as 2017.

"The unregistered colleges were in Botlokwa, Morebeng and Vhembe districts. She is also facing 40 counts of fraud in Thohoyandou, 13 in Makhado, and 43 in Morebeng Magistrate’s Court. She has been untraceable for over six years.”

Ngwana was arrested on 10 March at the OR Tambo Airport, arriving from Zimbabwe.

The Polokwane Court case was postponed until today for her bail hearing.
