University of Kent wants South African input on abortion project

A UK research project into the views of health professionals on abortion access and provision in facilities in South Africa, asks for local input.

Sara Bamdad, a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Kent, writes:

Our research group at the University of Kent  is currently working on a project exploring abortion, abortion access and provision in South Africa. I wanted to give you a brief description about our project and ask you to share the survey link on your social media platforms and/or weekly e-publications.

The aim of our research is to discover the views and opinions of health professionals about abortion access and provision in facilities (public, private, and NGOs) in South Africa. Given the key role of medical practitioners in supporting and caring for pregnant women, their opinion is extremely valuable for this project, even if you are not providing abortion services, and will help us to understand how abortion is perceived and experienced by South African maternity professionals. This research is even more critical in the current circumstances as (reproductive) health services are fundamentally affected by the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Participation in this research is completely voluntary, and the study is completely anonymous. Therefore, participants are not required to provide their names or any other identifying information. This research is funded by the Global Challenges Doctoral Research Centre, University of Kent, UK, and has been approved by the School of Anthropology and Conservation (SAC) Research and Ethics Committee.
