Doctor implicated in murder of ex-wife

A Gauteng doctor allegedly paid a hitman and his driver R35 000 to gun down his ex-wife – a high school teacher – a Vereeniging court heard last week.

Dr Tumelo Ntholeng is accused of conspiring with his cousin, Pakiso Makhanya, who then recruited Mzwanele Mazeke and driver Jabulane Thabethe, to kill Palesa Mofokeng, who taught at Riverside High School.

She died after being fatally shot while driving to work on 5 April, reports News24.

Investigating officer Sergeant Tlonki Matsose told the court Mazeke was paid R15 000 in February and then another R20 000 after the murder. He paid Thabethe R9 000.

Matsose said Mofokeng had been shot six times through the rear window of her Nissan bakkie.

information from an informer tipped police off to Mazeke as the alleged shooter, who was tracked via his cellphone, he told the court.

“When we found him, he told us it was Makhanya and his cousin Ntholeng who did the killing.”

Mazeke was in possession of a loaded weapon and ammunition, and was arrested.

He led the police to Thabethe – who was found with a vehicle fitting the description of a Honda involved in the shooting – and then to Ntholeng. The doctor was arrested at his house in Three Rivers.

When questioned, Ntholeng claimed he was in Sasolburg when his ex-wife was killed.

The trial continues.
