A deputy director in the Free State Department of Health, Mmulutsi Winston Mokwai is embroiled in a fraud scandal after allegations that he used fake qualifications to get the job.
He appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court last week facing charges lodged by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), after accusations that he rose through the ranks to authority on the back of lies and forged credentials.
Mokwai has worked the Department of Health since 2012, reports IOL.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Fikiswa Matoti said investigations found that Mokwai’s diploma and degree in electrical engineering were fake, meaning not only that the Department of Health had been misled, but that it had also suffered financial losses.
Mokwai, who was released on R2 000 bail, will be back in court on 28 October.
