Two suspended KZN paramedics who apparently refused to walk down steps to reach a patient in distress, and who drove off after the family took too long to carry her up to them, are likely to be probed by the Human Rights Commission (HRC) at the request of her family.
The Professional Board for Emergency Care, which fall under the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), has condemned their conduct.
TimesLIVE Premium reports Thembeka Sikhosana, who was in respiratory distress but whom the paramedics are accused of abandoning, died at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Umlazi on Thursday two weeks after the stairs incident.
They had told the family it was “not their job” to carry the ill woman up the flight of steps.
The HPCSA confirmed it is investigating the matter
